Hybrid Geometric Series 2012-13

"Hybrid Chicken": This series was one of my favorites because in painting three our teacher introduced us to Hybrid art: extreme abstract art. I decided to rely on my imagination rather than realistic. I kind of got the idea of using the image of a chicken from watching Robot Chicken on Adult Swim one night. As an art major I work real late hours and put in a whole lot of thought and work.

"Dominant Female": This was the first painting project I did in painting three. The idea was to create a painting based off a quote. (Dominant Female isn't the initial title) For this painting I wanted to address the beauty of a woman's hair. Her hair represents not just beauty but success and strength that she shares with her family. Something that some of our youth today are forgetting.

"Enchanted": I wanted to take my signature image of a flower and stylize it into something more geometric and hybrid. Almost like a puzzle.

My passion for Hybrid Art started to come into bloom in my second painting: "Your Brain on Art". What I did was I just doodled on the canvas, just as I would in my sketch book. Lately now that's how I've been creating my paintings. Instead of trying to plan it in my sketch book I'm just gonna jump right in!

"What Do You See" is one of the paintigs I can't officially say is finished because I kind of want to add more to the painting but if I do I take away the idea of it being a doodle image: Fantastic image that's crossed from being finished and not so much finished. This painting was created on several sheets of paper taped together and gessoed. Since my teacher wanted me to go bigger with my paintings and, for me, buying a bigger canvas was gonna be a bit expensive I decided to improvise and think cheap.

"In Construction" was another painting that's not initially finished and it also got ruined on the way back to my apartment because it was windy that day and it was during finals week and I had no where else to store it in the painting lab. I initially wanted to paint in a message into the heart but I figured that would be too obvious so I took that out and just colored in different shapes of the heart, like a puzzle, and tried to limit myself to no more than six different colors.

"Black Widow" is a painting made entirely out of spider webs. My teacher asked me what do I like to sketch more of and I told him spider webs. They're so intriging to look at and if you look more at them you kind of lose your view point. Lastly, the cherry on top of it all was the deadliest spider know as the black widow.
